January 2020

A photo update of the start of 2020 on our regenerative farm…

Pasture Raised Eggs

pasture raised hens @ bramleighfarm

Our happy hens producing nutritious pasture raised eggs from the abundant Summer forage they have access to. As we move their egg mobile around the farm, we can see their positive impact on grass growth from last season’s rotations.

Pasture Raised Chicken

Batch 3 of our pasture raised chickens enjoying sunny Summer days

Batch 4 of our broiler chicks in their cozy brooder. They will be here until they have proper feathers in two weeks or so before moving out onto pasture.

Forest Raised Pork

We managed to source 6 Duroc piglets. We hope to start our own farrowing (breeding) this year of this beautiful breed that is also hardy, docile, and a good forager. Lady, our adopted sow, is just loving their company. They will get used to free ranging in this paddock and then we will start training them to the electric fence before they go out into the forest.

The new Earth Route Market sprouted in Notties this month! What a buzz of excitement and enthusiasm for this market of local and clean-living products. Join us every Saturday 7.30 - 11am in the Notties Farmers Hall. If you’d like to secure your goodies, the REKO producers are still taking orders on the Facebook page for delivery at the market

Enaleni Farm Tour

We were treated to a farm tour at Enaleni Farm. Richard goes to great lengths to preserve heritage seeds and breeds on his 10ha farm. He hosts monthly pop up restaurant events where all the produce comes from the farm. We learnt about making single origin yoghurt, the adaptions of heritage breeds to their climate, growing various crops all on an agro-ecological farm.

Jackie Cameron Farm Tour

We were honoured to host students from Jackie Cameron School of Food and Wine for a farm tour. The students start their course off with a tour of Midlands farms to learn about the production of food products - from farm to fork.

Some summer deliciousness - mushrooms, frogs, flowers and jikijolo berries, late Cape Chestnut trees in bloom, some resting in the forest, baboons that keep stealing our fruit and veg, and mowing… oh so much mowing! The chickens are building grass too quickly! Time to get our own herbivores!
